What is Crypto Gifting?

Crypto gifting allows for the receiver to have a significantly more discipline because they did not spend their own money to purchase

Gifting is one of the world's most normalized traditions. We show appreciation to our loved ones by offering something we believe they will cherish. A handwritten card, piece of clothing, money, or anything else can be a worthy gift.

Recently, a new category has emerged as another compelling gifting solution - cryptocurrency. Let us break down crypto gifting and why it should be on your radar.

What is Cryptocurrency?

Many articles, youtube channels, and even courses are dedicated to explaining cryptocurrency. We will not be going into a long lesson here but rather a quick crash course.

If you have heard of Bitcoin, then you have heard of cryptocurrency. To those unfamiliar with its purposes, cryptocurrency will come across as a form of online value transfer. This is a perfectly adequate introduction to the concept but not representative of why it is a compelling item to own or choose to gift. Instead, we need to explore what makes cryptocurrency unique compared to a service like PayPal or even money in your bank account.

What makes cryptocurrency worth owning?

Almost every service, product or item that your use has some entity behind it. This statement is almost something that is taken for granted. Of course your cereal is made by Kelloggs, of course your burger is made by McDonalds and of course that airplane was made by Boeing.

However, the genesis of Bitcoin came as an experiment to do something completely different. Why does our money need an entity behind its creation and control? This question represents one of the core principles behind cryptocurrency. An attempt to truly democratize value systems from central (government/ bank) control. By owning cryptocurrency, you are participating in one of society's most recent great experiments.

Of course, there is a lot more to it than that, and depending on which crypto you own, you should learn more about what drives its value. The key takeaway is that if a cryptourrency you own delivers on its mission, its value is likely to increase.

The purpose of this post is not to recommend any particular crypto but to introduce some of the concepts behind them. In the future, we will put a spotlight on different cryptos to dive into what their purposes/goals are.

Why should I send a crypto gift?

The reality of any investment is that it requires some appetite for risk and some ability to be patient. Whether it be real estate, bonds, stocks or cryptocurrency. One of the things that makes it so hard to have an appetite for risk or patience is when you invest too much of your own money.

Crypto gifting gives the receiver significantly more discipline because they did not spend their own money to purchase the investment. This is why many people hung stock certificates they were gifted on walls and never considered selling them. It was meant to commemorate a moment and not be concerned about its value. Of course, if it goes up, that's a huge plus.

Also, the person sending the gift has little concern for its future value because it was always something they were planning to give without any expectations of returns.

Additionally, cryptocurrency is unique because you can purchase as much or as little as possible. So sending a relatively small crypto gift as an introduction to a loved one is entirely doable.

How can I send a crypto gift?

After doing your research, you have found the perfect cryptocurrency to share with your loved one via a gift. What do you do next?

Unfortunately, cryptocurrency is not always the most user-friendly. You would have to find a way to purchase it, get the giftee's wallet address, and then generate a transaction to send it. This would not only ruin the surprise but also may turn you off along the way.

Send a Crypto Gift with Asset Gift

At Asset Gift, we have made this process super easy for users in jurisdictions in which we operate. You can send a crypto gift in minutes using your credit/debit card and the giftee's email address. The giftee then accepts the gift and, once your payment is processed, receives the crypto equivalent of the gift value in their account.

From there, they can choose when to withdraw their assets from the platform.

I want to get crypto gifts!

Of course, you can join in on the fun as well. In future articles, we will also explain our crypto gift campaigns, which will allow you to collect gifts from everyone at your next event.
